Abstract ♦ Trained hospice volunteers are an important part of the hospice team, and their work has a significant role to play both in end-of-life care and at the community level. The different hospice volunteer training courses have different agendas, with the focus being on different areas, so that each course focuses on primary care tasks, a more in-depth psychological background or even teamwork and ethical-legal regulation. However, certain topics are everywhere, such as ideas about death, cultural differences, appropriate treatment and communication with patients, and the possible roles of volunteers next to the dying person and the family. In this report, we present the experiences of a hospice volunteer training in the United States (VNS Health, Hospice Core Curriculum Training, New York, NY), comparing it with the hospice volunteer training in Hungary, in particular with the Hungarian Hospice-Palliative Association.
