Abstract · The proverb "Of the dead, say nothing but good” is considered fundamental courtesy when communicating about the deceased. However, the question arises whether it is morally correct to adhere to this guideline in today's world. Nobody is perfect, so this code of conduct and the sense of justice can easily contradict each other. I have examined this dilemma from various moral, psychological, legal, and sociological perspectives. In reality, the truth value of the proverb is also influenced by the depth of the relationship between the communicating parties and the deceased individual, as well as by the form of communication.
