„Dead Father Blues.” The psychobiographical study of creative grief-elaboration related to the loss of the father

Abstract · If we take a look at the history of psychoanalysis and existentialism (arising from the same cultural background), from the middle of 19th until the beginning of the 20th century, we find several authors among the significant early representatives (Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, Dosztojevszkij, Freud, Lipót Szondi) whose philosophical/scientific creativity demonstrably unfolded under the influence of the loss of their fathers. According to the author's hypothesis, the formation and specificities of these scholars’ philosophical/psychological thoughts are related to the process of creative grief elaboration provoked by the death of their fathers. We can evince these interrelations with the use of psychobiography, an idiographic, qualitative method related to the strategy of discovery, and to hermeneutic traditions, following the psychological interpretation of first-person and third-person documents about the studied person. The explored interrelations will help us better understandthe oeuvre of these authors, furthermore, they may give us a chance to take a closer look at the dynamics of creative existential crisis-elaboration arising from emotional loss.

Bereavement dilemmas in perinatal loss cases

Abstract · Life expectancy of children born in the ‘grey zone’ of prematurity may alter to a great extent compared to those born around the due date. The objective of the article is to present the potential dilemmas of provided healthcare and bereavement rights related to the grey zone of prematurity, discussing two Hungarian cases. Above the specialised medical care periviable births may involve alternative pathways in administrative and legal measures, as well. What steps are taken and what consequences they lead to will largely be defined by the attention and considerate care measures of the competent, involved healthcare professionals.

Experiences of grief counseling groups in the lights of a study

Abstract · The study presents the activity of grief counseling groups in general, focusing on the role of the group leader, on the questions of stucture and method, as well. In the research, using the semi-structured interview method, we asked the mourning individuals of the groups to share their group related experiences. They openly and honestly talked about their own grief, their coping methods, and how the group work helped them in their mourning process. Based on the thematic content analysis of the semi-structured interviews it is observable what a griefshare group could mean to its members.
