The signs of distorted grief

(István Szilágyi: Kő hull apadó kútba - Stone Falls into a Receding Well)

Abstract · Oppressed traumatic experiences, denial and guilt in connection with grief, and the compulsive imitation of behavior patterns have a distortional effect on one’s personality. The psychological novel of the Hungarian author István Szilágyi (released in 1975) guides its readers into the world of Partium (Transylvania) at the beginning of the 20th century. As a law student and writer, Szilágyi was interested in the psychological effects of unpunished crimes leading to the distortion of the personality. He portrays these effects in the tragedy of a peasant planning to emigrate to America away from his unbearable lifestyle and his murderer – based on a true story.

Care for the incurable: neonatal comfort care as a method

(translated by E. Zs:)

Abstract · For us, neonatologists the complete recovery of our patients is the primary goal, via reanimation and intensive care, using curing and surgical solutions as well. For this reason neonatal intensive care may be manifold. Sometimes, however, our little patients cannot be cured and healed with intensive therapy, since they suffer from incurable diseases or are in terminal status, perhaps even after weeks of intensive therapeutic solutions. In this study I would like to define the characteristics of comfort care in neonatology, in the care of incurable newborn babies, then to describe the figures that we have collected in the three years of this type of care, moreover, to present some interesting observations that we have made during the analysis of the cases.
